Position Summary
At Urology Austin, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant supports the daily operations of our CLIA and CAP accredited diagnostic laboratory by handling specimen receipt, processing, and data entry in accordance with regulatory and biosafety standards. The CLA ensures timely and accurate pre and post-analytical workflows to support high quality patient care. This role is essential to maintaining the efficiency and compliance of our laboratory services across multiple clinic locations.

Job Relationships:
  • Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a clinical laboratory required.
  • Strong understanding of basic laboratory practices and biosafety protocols (BSL2).
  • Experience with Orchard Harvest Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills. Proficiency in computer systems & data entry.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Phlebotomy experience and certification is a plus but not required.
Essential Job Duties
  • Enters test values into EMR system and other patient charts.
  • Receive, accession, and process clinical specimens in accordance with SOPs
  • Label and prepare specimens for testing, storage, or reference laboratory send-outs.
  • Perform centrifugation, aliquoting, and basic handling of biological samples.
  • Ensure proper documentation and chain of custody for all specimens.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and biohazard safety in work areas.
  • Assist with inventory management and restocking of lab supplies.
  • Accurately enter patient and specimen data into the LIS and troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and clinic teams to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.
  • Assists in slide production, e.g. “Writing” slides.
  • Support compliance efforts by adhering to CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA standards.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
