Position Summary
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides direct patient care in a busy outpatient urology clinic under the supervision of the Site Manager and in coordination with the clinic’s providers. This role includes supporting patient intake, triage, in-office procedures, documentation, and patient education. The LVN is a vital communicator between patients and providers and plays an essential role in maintaining care continuity, patient safety, and clinical quality standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, clear communication, and a collaborative spirit.
Job Relationships:
  • Reports to the Site Manager
  • Collaborates with Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), and Clinical Support Teams
  • Supervises: None
Qualifications
  • Current LVN license in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of two 1 year of experience in an outpatient clinic, ambulatory center emergency room, or surgical setting preferred
  • Urology experience a plus, but not required
  • Ongoing participation in continuing education
  • Ability to use sound clinical judgment and communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and teamwork
Essential Job Duties
  • Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring a respectful, safe, and supportive care environment
  • Perform patient triage based on presenting symptoms, urgency, and clinical protocols
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist with patient intake, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and chief complaint documentation
  • Administer medications and injections, including vaccines, as ordered by providers
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures such as catheter changes, bladder instillations, and post-op care
  • Communicate diagnostic results (labs, imaging, pathology) to patients under provider supervision
  • Accurately document patient encounters, including symptoms, history of present illness, medications, allergies, and limited assessments within LVN scope of practice
  • Relay treatment plans and instructions to patients and/or family members as directed by providers
  • Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure care, medications, and treatment expectations
  • Coordinate with scheduling and clinical staff regarding appointment needs and care flow
  • Coordinate patient follow-up care, including imaging, labs, referrals, or provider communications as directed
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR) to accurately document and retrieve clinical and patient information
  • Monitor and restock medical supplies; ensure equipment is sanitized, functional, and ready for patient use
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with clinical protocols, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements
  • Foster a culture of clinical excellence by sharing knowledge, guiding daily workflows, and supporting newer staff with adherence to protocols and standards
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and provide age-appropriate, urology-specific care
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to clinic policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Visual and auditory acuity required to assess patient condition and interact effectively with patients and staff
  • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods during clinic hours
  • Occasional high-stress situations due to urgent patient needs or procedural support
Work Environment
  • Outpatient clinical setting with direct patient interaction
  • Frequent exposure to bodily fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and other potentially infectious materials
  • Exposure to common medical cleaning solutions and sharps
  • Fast-paced, collaborative team environment requiring multitasking and flexibility
  • Standard schedule Monday through Friday with no weekend or holiday shifts
  • Must comply with all clinic safety, privacy, and infection control protocols
