Histotechnologist

Urology Austin, the largest urology practice in Central Texas, currently has a full-time position for a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist.  Urology Austin is centrally located in the beautiful city of Austin, TX.  The laboratory provides a number of services to the practice including histology/pathology, cytology, and clinical laboratory testing.  The laboratory is CAP certified and provides the highest quality results to the physicians of the practice.

Job Description:

The histotechnician/histotechnologist performs all tasks associated with the processing of surgical and biopsy specimens.  Good interpersonal skills are a must due to the small laboratory setting.  The successful candidate will be a team player, willing to perform tasks in all areas of the laboratory.  The tech works directly with the laboratory manager and the pathologist to produce high quality results efficiently to the clinicians of the practice.

Job Duties:

  • Accessioning cases
  • Grossing of specimens
  • Processing, embedding, cutting, and staining specimens
  • Coverslipping
  • Equipment maintenance, associated documentation, and daily logs
  • Assist with maintaining procedure manuals and CAP accreditation
  • Monitor inventory of supplies
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • HT/HTL (ASCP) certified or eligible
  • Meet the CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with small specimens.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills
